•  the first written reference of Trnava

 

1238

 •  Hungarian king  Belo IV granted Trnava town the privileges of free royal town

 •  Trnava became the first free royal town on the territory of the present Slovakia

 •  Trnava belonged to the biggest towns in the middle Europe in the 13th century  

 •   from the time of creation Trnava keeps up to this day unique fortification with brick 

     square towers, that  fringed the present historical centre  

 

1347

•  justifying of the oldest seal of Trnava 

 

1382

•  Hungarian and at the same time Polish  king  Luis Big the 1st  died in Trnava

 

1543

•  coming of Esztergom archbishopric and canonry to Trnava after occupation of Eszergom 

    by Turkish  

• Trnava became for nearly three hundred years the culture and religious centre of 

   Hungarian empire

•  Trnava let to the next generations spiritual mission and heritage recasted into beauty of

    architectural jewels 

 

1635

•  cardinal Peter Pázmany established Trnava University, which was the only one university  

    in the Hungarian empire at the time of its activity

 

1846

•  the first horse rail-way in Hungary was installed into operation,  line Bratislava – Trnava

 

1977

•  establishment of the Slovak Clerical Province with the seat in Trnava

 

1987

•  proclamation of  historic centre as the city monumental zone

 

1992

•  re-opening of  Trnava University

 

1996

•  Trnava became the regional seat
